Works include Greata Snider?s Blood Story (16 mm, 1990, 3 min), a simultaneous progression of three divergent tales; Lisa Austin?s Breaking Ground (16mm, 1990, 10 min) which expresses a woman?s dreamlike ritualistic struggle for her freedom; Susanne Fairfax?s ?Like Water into Sand (16mm, 1991, 8 min) a poetic evocation of a daughter?s experience surrounding her mother?s suicide; Emily Cronnback?s The Bee Meeting (16mm, 1991 8 min) a richly textured film inspired by the Sylvia Plath poem of the same name; Guvnor Nelson?s Time Being (16mm, 1991, 8 min) a delicate portrait of her mother through fragile tie and sublet changing light; Irina Leimbacker?s Mother Tongue (16mm, 1991, 4 min), whose aural and visual texture evoke the tension between differing point of mother and daughter; Cauleen Smith?s Daily Rains (16mm, 1991, 12 min) in which adult African American women recount childhood experiences with racism which they have been unable to erase from memory; The Cleaning Machine (16mm, 1991, 17 min) by Pat Baum, which illustrates the lives of two marginalized women in a society that has no place for them. Also on tonight?s program is Familiar Trees (16mm, 1994, 12 min) by San Francisco filmmaker Catherine Singstad, a film which explores the childhood memories of a girl as she confronts the loss of a loved one for the first time.
