Poet Mark Turcotte is the author of two critically acclaimed books, The Feathered Hear (March/Abrazo Press) and Songs of Opur Ancestors (children?s Press). He currently is presenting his work at bookstores and universities around the country, finishing three manuscripts and working for the Chicago Historical Society.

Poet Mark Turcotte is the author of two critically acclaimed books, The Feathered Hear (March/Abrazo Press) and Songs of Opur Ancestors (children?s Press).

He currently is presenting his work at bookstores and universities around the country, finishing three manuscripts and working for the Chicago Historical Society. He is the winner of the first Gwendolyn Brooks Open Mic Award. Mitar Mitch Covic, an arts advocate, educator, bass fiddler, and composer is known widely for his collaborations with filmmakers., choreographers, and composer is known widely for his collaborations wil filmmakers, choreographers, and theater companies. His work with spoken-word artists has been highly praised and is featured on the CD, A Snake in the Heart (Tia Chucha Press). For ten years he served as musical director of the poetry/ music ensemble David Hernandez and Street highway,? win which Covic?s bass weaves rhythms in and out of Turcotte?s aching and joyful story of the denial, acceptance and hard forgiving of his estranged native American father. The drum of Turcotte?s voice is driven and inspired by Covic?s mystery of fingers upon strings.
