Students from the storytelling class at Columbia College taught by Emily Hooper Lansana, present their work at a Storytelling Festival.

The performances will reflect the unique styles of the students who come from a variety of disciplines including: film and television, fiction writing, and sign language. The festival is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the art of storytelling and to encourage fresh, new, voices. This is the third storytelling festival presented by students from Columbia in conjunction with The Guild Complex. Outstanding past performances have included the story of the Montgomery bus boycott told from a child?s perspective, original folk-tales such as ?Why the stars are in the sky?? and childhood reminiscences. This year students will also present many types of performances from classic folklore to original poetic tales. Emily Hooper Lansana has been bringing words to life since childhood. After graduating from Yale University in Theater Studies, she moved to Chicago to pursue her performance interests. Inspired by story teller Jackie Torrence , several years ago she began her storytelling career by studying with Shanta. She performs with Glenda Baker as the performance interests. Sign language interpretation will be provided.
