Both played bass (Damen in Blue Meanies and Carla in Baby Oil) and Damen played drums while they were the rhythm section for Popemobile. Their musical compositions are combinations of samples and live instruments, complimented by Carla?s insightful rapid and catchy melodies. Carla?s performance background includes gigging with a House band, while Damen has recorded tracks with local rappers and producers including Stony Island. Their live shows often feature guests such as D.J. Sole, as well as M.C./Beatbox/Producer Luchbox Law of Stony Island who also appears on the album. Sole has been spinning for eight years, originally at downtown area underground parties. He has been playing one circuit of Chicago clubs and bars, including House of Blues and others. He can be found at the Elbo Room every Thursday with Swimmer. Sole has opened up for Maceo Parker, the Grey boy Allstars , the BarKays, Groove Collective, Ray Charles among others. He blends rare jazz and funk, merging different styles of music. Dedicated to furthering establishing turntables as a musical instrument, he has sat with such bands as BUMPUS, Liquid Soul, and Swimmer. His influences range from Jimmy Hendrix to Yusef Lateef through the history of hip-hop.
