Wed April 13th @ 7p - Asymptote & Chopin Theatre invite you to celebrate Asymptote's fifth anniversary as we welcome four ​​of the most exciting contemporary literary translators into English -Nathanaël, Rey Andújar, Kolin Jordan and Jason Grunebaum.

Nathanaël is the (self-)translating author of more than a score of books written in English or in French including Asclepias: The Milkweeds (2015), The Middle Notebookes (2015) and Sotto l'immagine (2014). Extrinsic translations include works by Édouard Glissant, Danielle Collobert, Hervé Guibert and Hilda Hilst (the latter in collaboration with Rachel Gontijo Araújo).

Rey Andújar is a writer, poet, and dramaturgist. For Rey there is no difference between writing and movement—the two are inextricably linked. His work has won numerous awards including the Premio Letras de Ultramar for Saturnario (2010) and most recently Premio Latinoamericano de novela ALBA 2015 for his novel Los gestos inútiles. His first novel, Candela is being adapted for the screen and is currently in production. He recently received is doctorate from Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Puerto Rico y el Caribe and is a professor at Governors State University.

Kolin Jordan has a habit of carrying a full human skeleton around with him inside his skin. He uses a large hunk of squishy meat to write weird little things and to translate other people’s writing from one language to another. Kolin has translated two books of short stories, Saturnalia by Rey Andúajr and Flowers & Mishima’s Illustrated Biography by Mario Bellatín for 7Vientos Press and countless other things for other people. He is a native of Chicago, likes cookies and whiskey (occasionally at the same time), dreams in Spanish, and wishes there were such a thing as vegetarian sancocho.

Jason Grunebaum is a writer and Hindi translator whose book-length translations include Uday Prakash’s The Girl with the Golden Parasol and The Walls of Delhi. He has received an NEA Literature Fellowship, a PEN/Heim grant, and his work has been shortlisted for the DSC Prize in South Asian Literature. He teaches at the University of Chicago.
