When you hear the phrase venues that matter, it should inspire comfort and confidence.  Luckily for us, Chicago's entertainment scene has a great many Venues that Matter, places that stand out because of the programming quality, ambition or just because the room is great.  Everything you see in these spots won't always be great, but any discussions of where to go for entertainment starts with these places.

CHOPIN THEATER - Chris Jones

"Great theaters need great karma. And even though the basement theater in this double-fisted Wicker Park venue is beset by pillars, it somehow brings out hte best in directors.  This is where David Cromer's "Our Town" began, along with many other fine shows.  Upstairs, there's a big, flexible space that encourages creativity.  With kindly, theater-loving owners and great Polish beer at the bar, the Chopin is a composer of merit."
